CMP Examination – Pompton Plains, NJ

Dec 13, 2025 @ 8:00 am 5:00 pm America/Newark

CMP Certification Course

Purpose Statement

The purposes of recognizing Certified Mulligan Practitioner (CMP) clinicians are two fold:

As a referral source for clinicians and the general public seeking treatment from clinicians who achieved a recognized level of competence in the Mulligan Concept ®. Clinicians who qualify as a Certified Mulligan Practitioner (CMP) will be eligible to have their names listed on the Mulligan (www.bmulligan.com) and the NA-MCTA (www.na-mcta.com) web sites.

The NA-MCTA and CMP credentialing process can assist clinicians who are interested in having their knowledge base and skill competence in the Mulligan Concept ® evaluated by providing a peer review/examination process. It is hoped that such individuals with CMP credentials will have improved treatment outcomes.

* NOTIFICATION on Teaching the Mulligan Concept ® techniques: Individuals who pass the CMP qualifying exam are NOT entitled to, nor are they recognized by the NA-MCTA to teach the Mulligan Concept ®.

Certification Criteria

Certification Criteria

The NA-MCTA has recognized the need to identify physical therapists that are competent in both a didactic knowledge base and clinical/practical expertise in the Mulligan Concept ®. In brief, the CMP testing has both a didactic and manual skills examination. Upon successful completion of the examination process these clinicians will be recognized as Certified Mulligan Practitioners (CMP).

Those eligible to apply for the CMP exam include: Physical Therapists, ATCs, Medical Doctors, Osteopaths, and Chiropractors (Note:  OT, PTA, and COTA are not eligible).

To be admitted to the CMP examination, applicants must have completed the following course sequences.

  1. UPPER QUADRANT
  2. LOWER QUADRANT
  3. ADVANCED COURSE

* The Introductory course is recommended but not required.

Clinical Experience with Mulligan Concept ® is highly recommended. It is the expectation of the MCTA that individuals who have taken the recommended course work and have clinical experience with the Mulligan Concept ® should to be successful with the exam process. Clinicians who have not regularly practiced the mobilization with movement approach and used Brian Mulligan’s 6th edition text as a clinical resource and guide for developing further understanding and skill in the Mulligan Concept ® may find the CMP credentialing exam challenging.

Participant Comments about the CMP Certification Program

It was a wonderful experience for me. Studying for it really made me sharpen my skills and master the techniques that I use less frequently. My patients have been very excited by the entire process and their treatment has definitely benefited from it. Thank you again for your encouragement and support!
